The Ministry of Religious Affairs will hold a National Prayer and Zikir as part of the commemoration of the 81st Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia. The event, coordinated by the Ministry of State Secretariat, is expected to draw approximately 100,000 participants on Saturday, August 1, 2026, at the National Monument (Monas) in Jakarta.
“Eighty-one years have proven that Indonesia is a nation that continues to move forward while standing strong. This National Prayer and Zikir is an expression of our gratitude, as well as our collective plea for God’s guidance and protection as we continue to advance together in filling our independence with meaningful contributions,” said Secretary General of the Ministry of Religious Affairs Kamaruddin Amin in Jakarta on Monday (July 27, 2026).
Kamaruddin Amin emphasized that independence belongs to every Indonesian without exception. Therefore, realizing a Sovereign, Just, and Prosperous Indonesia must remain the shared aspiration of the entire nation. Every step taken toward that goal, he added, should be accompanied by prayer.
The Secretary General also explained that the event will bring together participants from various segments of society.
“The event is expected to be attended by students, santri (Islamic boarding school students), university students, teachers, community leaders, religious leaders, representatives of community organizations, and civil servants from ministries and government agencies,” he said.
“We also hope that people across Indonesia will participate by joining the prayers from their respective homes,” he added.
The National Zikir and Prayer ceremony will feature interfaith prayers and a choir performance, reflecting Indonesia’s religious diversity. “All officially recognized religions will take part in this event. There will also be a shalawat recitation led by Habib Syech,” Kamaruddin Amin explained.
Director General of Islamic Community Guidance Abu Rokhmad, who serves as Chair of the Organizing Committee, said that every segment of the event reflects Indonesia’s harmony in diversity.
“This occasion presents the true face of Indonesia. Although we embrace different faiths and traditions, we are united by the same love for our nation and our country,” Abu Rokhmad said.
He added that prayer should serve as a source of inspiration that encourages people to preserve harmony, strengthen solidarity, and make meaningful contributions to their communities.
“Prayer should nurture hope, and hope must be translated into action—from keeping brotherhood and helping others to carrying out our respective responsibilities to the best of our abilities,” he said.
The Ministry of Religious Affairs hopes that the National Prayer and Zikir will serve as a meaningful gathering for all Indonesians while strengthening the nation’s collective commitment to building a Sovereign, Just, and Prosperous Indonesia.
